Erika Fernandez, MD
Erika Fernandez is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She is a Neonatologist for the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and for Pacific Central Coast Health (PCH). She completed Fellowship in Neonatology at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and while at UNM worked as a clinical researcher in the area of adrenal response of newborn infants to stress, hypotension and critical illness and served on the IRB and CTSC. She then moved to San Diego where she was the Clinical and Medical Director of the UCSD NICUs for 7 years. She has always believed in the strength of building communities and has served as the chair of the AAP District 8 conference, the president of the Western Society of Pediatric Research and more recently as a representative for the South East Region in the California Association of Neonatologists (CAN). She is continuing to work on building collaborations across regions to better improve the health of infants. Currently, she is the Treasurer for CAN and is committed to improving the health of our organization so that we can better ensure that our babies and families get the best care they can possibly get.
