Thomas K. Shimotake, MD, FAAP
Thomas K. Shimotake, MD, FAAP is a Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF School of Medicine and Medical Director of the Intensive Care Nursery at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, Mission Bay San Francisco. He received his MD from the University of Illinois and completed his Pediatric Residency and Neonatology Fellowship training at the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty at UCSF in 2003 and has since served in a number of leadership positions, including Fellowship Training Director, Clinical Physiology Lab Director, and charter Co-Director of the Neurointensive Care Nursery. He is a graduate of the UCSF Teaching Scholars Program and has roles in support of the UCSF School of Medicine and Pediatrics Residency Programs. He has been active in regional collaboratives to develop evidence-based best practice guidelines through CPQCC Toolkits and the UCSF Northern California Neonatal Consortium (NCNC). His other areas of interest include neonatal lung disease/BPD/surfactant homeostasis, medical education, neonatal neurointensive care, and therapeutic hypothermia. In 2020 Dr. Shimotake was elected Vice-President of CAN and will serve his two-year tenure as CAN President from 2022-2024.
